Old Jaws can’t handle today’s cars

Ridgefield, Conn. Fire Dept. definitely gets it:

“It’s really important we replace these tools for two reasons — the age of the equipment and the steel technology used in modern cars,” said fire Chief Heather Burford. “We have to keep up with new cars or otherwise we won’t be able to do our job.”

First Selectman Rudy Marconi said the current Jaws of Life can’t cut through the steel bodies of today’s automobiles, which are designed to be stronger than cars made when the Jaws of Life were purchased.

Sutphen Corporation: A Stalwart In Fire Truck Manufacturing

DUBLIN, Ohio – Only a handful of companies manufacture fire trucks, and the Sutphen Corporation is one of the oldest.

The 123-year-old, family-owned company is on its fourth generation of Sutphen’s at the helm.

The Sutphen Company, located in Dublin, makes pumpers and aerial ladders for fire departments across the country and around the world, all by hand.

First Responder Emergency Extrication (F.R.E.E.)

FREE is a program of the National Auto Body Council (NABC).

Would you like to host a great community service event at your body shop? How about filling your shop with first responders from your area?

The NABC is seeking body shops interested in hosting F.R.E.E. (First Responder Emergency Extrication) events in 2013.

F.R.E.E. is a community service program that helps local fire departments keep abreast on the latest new technology in vehicles. These events feature classroom training on new high strength metals, airbags and restraint systems. Training is also given on electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel vehicles.
